American Institute of Architects East Tennessee’s Future Faces of Design Scholarship

Dates: July 14th – 20th, 2024
Location: UTK College of Architecture + Design
Description: Come spend a week with UTK this summer in a UT design studio to learn about design and your place in it during our summer design camp for high school students. You’ll learn about architecture, interior architecture, and graphic design and how they impact the world.
This camp is for creative, problem-solving, out-of-the-box thinkers. It’s a July design-immersion experience that offers motivated high school students an introduction to design and how design impacts the human experience. You’ll also learn a lot about yourself and the world, and you’ll probably meet lifelong friends.

No Experience Needed
Previous architecture, interior architecture, or design experience is not necessary.  If you’re a rising freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in high school and have an interest in design and how it impacts the world, this is your place.  Just bring your creativity and curiosity

Future Faces of Design Scholarship Information

The American Institute of Architects East Tennessee Chapter is excited to announce that our Future Faces of Design Scholarship is open and ready to support students from historically underrepresented demographics in architecture. Our Future Faces of Design Scholarship provides students with the opportunity to pursue their interest in the field and shape the future of the profession as well as seek to improve the built environment. The scholarship includes a one-time award for the cost of attending UTK College of Architecture and Design’s Summer Design Camp® 2024 and includes the general tuition, a 6-night room stay, all meals, and university programming. Students will live in a 2-person suite with 1 private bathroom in a university dorm with camp counselors located on the hall.

How to Apply:

Accepting Applications: February 19th, 2024 – April 5th, 2024

To apply for this opportunity, applicants must be rising high school sophomores, juniors, seniors, or recent graduates within Tennessee and ages 15 years or older. Applicants will submit an essay about why design matters to them, and how they hope to contribute to our built environment. Students are encouraged to recount how their experiences as an underrepresented demographic have shaped their path to where they are today. We want students to experience that they are valued, heard, respected, and empowered to pursue their full potential regardless of their demographics. Previous architecture or design experience is not necessary.

Applications open now and are due by April 5th. The application form can be found below. Recipients of this opportunity will be notified by April 19th. A selection committee named by the AIA ETN board will evaluate each candidate and notify the selected student in advance of the registration deadline for Design Camp 2024.

If you have any questions about this application, please contact the AIA ETN Board of Directors.
