DESCRIPTION:Join AIA East Tennessee\, ACS Printing\, and Proficient Engineering for our July Design Feed with Dr. Christopher Hunter and Corrin J. Breeding from Dallas\, TX.  \n\n\n\nDescription: The purpose of this presentation is to introduce and begin to examine the existence\, relationship\, and meaning of the physical\, spatial\, and spiritual agency between a constructed black church house and a black cemetery in the Jim Crow south of the late 19th to early 20th century America. \n\n\n\nCEU: 1 HSW l LU \n\n\n\nHSW Justification: Aspects of architecture that engender demonstrable positive emotional responses from\, or enable equal access by\, users of buildings or sites. In this presentation\, the application of ‘Welfare’ shall introduce the emotional and cultural relationship between African Americans and the church houses they constructed and the cemetery sites they created. \n\n\n\nThis presentation shall also look at the value of historic preservation applied to late 19th- and early 20th-century architecture and site design within the cultural aspects of African American cemeteries. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives:  \n\n\n\n\nIntroduction to the value of Afrocentric building material culture.\n\n\n\nUnderstanding the relationship between the Afrocentric religious experience from the living to the afterlife within a physical context.\n\n\n\nInquiry into the African American religious experience in introducing historical African worship practices.\n\n\n\nPresent an architectural examination of the stylistic forms of building design and a spatial examination of site design for the afterlife experience.

Demystifying the role these control layers play in today’s high-performance construction.. Practitioners want clarity on control layers’ performance so they can be properly utilized to create resilient\, comfortable\, healthy\, and energy-efficient homes. This presentation is a careful look at how to do it. \n\n\n\nCEU: 1 HSW \n\n\n\nHSW Justification: Healthy homes need to prioritize air sealing to control the location of supply air so that it can be filtered and conditioned (using an HRV or ERV). Healthy homes also need to carefully consider proper vapor control\, especially in our humid climate zone. This presentation will highlight proper airtightness and vapor control strategies to prevent moisture concerns and create healthy IAQ. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives: \n\n\n\n\nDefine what qualities differentiate high-performance enclosures from typical construction and how those qualities are evolving.\n\n\n\nDescribe practical methodologies practitioners can implement to successfully produce a high-performance enclosure that fosters a healthy and comfortable interior.\n\n\n\nDescribe practitioner considerations for high-performance window installation.
