The #1 cause of turnover in multi-family residentialdwellings is sound transmission. As residential construction continues to grow, the need for quality sound control between floors has also grown. Soundattenuating mats are used in the floor-ceiling assembly to help control theamount of Airborne sound (STC) and Impact Sound (IIC) transmitted betweenfloors. The lack of innovation combined with new designs in floor coveringsleaves the occupant unable to sleep, stressed and lacking motivation. This sessionwill help architects understand the challenge of understanding how STC and IICwork and how to specify a proper sound mat based on the floor covering.Attendees will learn about Sound test graphs, deflection, perimeter isolationstrip as well as the difference between monofilament and rigid technology.
