SUMMARY:Tri-Cities Lecture & Happy Hour with Nick Shaw\, CPHC\, PHIUS Certified Builder
DESCRIPTION:Join AIA East Tennessee for a Lecture and Happy Hour at Lumber & Craft with Nick Shaw\, CPHC\, PHIUS Certified Builder on May 16th from 5:00-7:00pm. \n\n\n\n\n5:00-5:30- Doors Open. Demystifying the role these control layers play in today’s high-performance construction.. Practitioners want clarity on control layers’ performance so they can be properly utilized to create resilient\, comfortable\, healthy\, and energy-efficient homes. This presentation is a careful look at how to do it. \n\n\n\nCEU: 1 HSW \n\n\n\nHSW Justification: Healthy homes need to prioritize air sealing to control the location of supply air so that it can be filtered and conditioned (using an HRV or ERV). Healthy homes also need to carefully consider proper vapor control\, especially in our humid climate zone. This presentation will highlight proper airtightness and vapor control strategies to prevent moisture concerns and create healthy IAQ. \n\n\n\nLearning Objectives: \n\n\n\n\nDefine what qualities differentiate high-performance enclosures from typical construction and how those qualities are evolving.\n\n\n\nDescribe practical methodologies practitioners can implement to successfully produce a high-performance enclosure that fosters a healthy and comfortable interior.\n\n\n\nDescribe practitioner considerations for high-performance window installation.

SUMMARY:Design Feed- Eric Keune\, AIA\, LEED AP BD+C
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Eric Keune\, AIA LEED AP BD+C\, Design Director with Perkins&Will in Boston\, MA.  \nDescription: A glimpse inside Perkins&Will’s Boston practice from the perspective of the studio’s design director. This snapshot of a moment in time will overlook the work of a single studio functioning within the large-scale\, multi-national commercial ecosystem of a larger firm. The work of the studio spans multiple building typologies throughout New England. The work of numerous collaborative authors is organized by a tripartite studio ethos: Purpose\, Place\, & Perspective and connected to New England’s unique modernist legacy of typological and tectonic innovation. The studio’s ongoing search for formal and functional invention is directed towards the familiar but elusive goal of “critical regionalism” that is non-stylistic and propelled by fundamentals such as climate\, performance\, tectonics\, and structural invention. \nLearning Objectives:  \n\nQuestioning typology – Learn about the role of typology in unlocking potential or unexpected solutions to common or well-known design challenges.\nFostering “Design Culture” – Learn how regular care and tending of a commercial structure’s internal intellectual and creative environment can maintain awareness and foster curiosity and exploration in a non-academic context.\nRegenerative design—Learn how inventive solutions can address our changing climate. Sea level rise\, storm surge\, shorter winters\, and increasing temperatures are altering ecosystems and requiring design solutions that respond appropriately.\nSearch for Form – Learn how an Iterative design process informs and identifies potential solutions\, enabling the designer to identify “the best” from “all the rest.”\n\nCEU: 1 LU \nCLICK HERE to purchase your ticket.
