PORT’s mandate as a practice is to design strategies and spaces that serve to equitably and creatively enhance the public realms of the cities and landscapes in which we have the opportunity to work. We will share an over view of four public space projects that vary widely in location, scale, scope and client type in order to demonstrate our unique approach to executing this work.
All four projects that will be presented are sited in the public-realm and address issues of public safety; engagement; equitable access; and frame public space as vehicle for enhancing community health and wellness.
- Participants will learn to identify opportunities to address and enhance public space; these skills can be applied during project analysis, programming and design phases across a wide variety of architectural scales/scopes.
- Participants will learn creative strategies for engaging public audiences in order to gather and incorporate public input into their design processes.
- Participants will observe strategic approaches to designing a single project across multiple nested macro/micro scales ranging from large scale planning strategies to custom urban furniture.
