“Cities acrossAmerica are suffering from a Disease. That Disease is Exclusionary Land Use,and the primary form of that sickness is Single Family Only Zoning. The majorsymptom of the disease? Unaffordability.”
Single Family onlydesignation stifles the ability to make inclusive, resilient, and affordableplaces to live. We will explore solutions that allow for a mixture of housingtypes that meet the needs of various residents with differing requirements.
Erik demonstrates howneighborhood design contributes to inclusion and human connection. Whenmunicipalities encourage variation in land use (zoning) to include a variety ofhousing types, at differing square footages and costs, communities become morediverse.
Highdensity land use allows municipalities to distribute infrastructure moreequitably and contributes to the triple bottom line:
Itserves people by providing a spectrum of affordability and increasing diversitywithin neighborhoods.
Itserves the planet by increasing efficiency of municipal services, therebyreducing overall consumption of natural resources.
Itprofits municipalities by increasing tax revenues per acre of land whileincreasing the impact of infrastructural investment.
