SUMMARY:Tri-Cities Tech Session- Timothy Maddox\, AIA
DESCRIPTION:Digital Speaker: Timothy Maddox\, AIA\, Principal with DEMX Architecture. \nDescription: This course provides an introduction to regional architecture and its benefits. Contextual Response and Regional Architecture are crucial in keeping an idea of place. DEMX Architecture is located in Fayetteville\, Arkansas\, and strives to respect the local context in which we reside. Vernacular buildings – such as barns\, sheds\, and local housing types each exhibit our most essential responses to the environment. They are built in defining style with context and function being priority. Combining the values of regional architectural principles and modernism\, allows designers to pursue sustainable practices rooted in efficiency\, appropriate material choices\, and contextual response. DEMX Architecture heavily emphasizes the iterative process to develop their work. This process is accomplished through sketches\, group design critiques\, model making\, and continuous study of the project. \nCEU: 1 LU \nTickets: \n\nOnline Ticket: CLICK HERE to purchase your online ticket. SUMMARY:Tri-Cities Tech Session: Michael Sørensen Lecture and Membership Feedback Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Digital Speaker: Michael Sorenson– Partner and Design Director with Henning Larsen\, located in NYC\, NY. \nDescription: Henning Larsen strives to create sustainable societies where people and nature flourish. Our projects are more than designs; they are solutions to specific challenges. As an interdisciplinary practice working across architecture\, landscape\, urbanism\, interior\, graphic and lighting design\, Henning Larsen challenges conventional practices to co-create\, innovate\, and cultivate desirable futures through design. Founded in 1959 by Danish architect Henning Larsen whose legacy we carry today\, we navigate the complex connections that bind together our built environment\, ecological systems\, and societies at large. \nAt Henning Larsen\, we design architecture as a collection of actions\, not as objects. Rather than autonomous objects\, architecture is a medium for engagement and connection between nature\, people\, and communities. We will explore the 60+ years of our firm and how our methodology has evolved as our practice has expanded from a small studio to a global interdisciplinary practice. \nLearning Objectives:  \n\nExplore various approaches to “people-first design” and how nature and community-driven design are integrated into projects in various cultures and climates.\nDiscuss how the studio’s methodology has evolved over 60+ years as the firm has grown from a local studio to a global design practice.\nAnalyze how the studio’s Scandinavian roots has informed design work in a North American context.\nExplore key built and unbuilt work from the firm’s global portfolio that demonstrates different approaches to connecting people\, nature\, and communities.\n\nTri-Cities Member Note: 2022 AIA East Tennessee President\, Josh Shaffer\, and AIA East TN Component Executive\, Jen McMahon\, will reserve 15-20 minutes of our meeting to discuss the Tri-Cities scholarship fund and will hold time to have our Tri-Cities Members share their feedback\, ask questions\, and share their ideas as to how we can improve our Tri-Cities Area programming!  \nRegister for your In-Person or Online Ticket HERE.
